FROM THE PORCH
Dallas and I both went into this one without knowing what to expect. It looked a little cloudy, and I figured we might get rained out, but it turned into a beautiful day. The other thing I didn't expect was how much I'd enjoy this cigar. This was my first time trying the Definition Prolific, and I was genuinely impressed.
One thing that stands out before you even light it, this company skips the label entirely. No paper band, nothing printed on the wrapper, just a woven gold nylon ring around the cigar. That's a distinctive choice for a brand to make, and I thought it was a cool one. I'll get into the rest of the details below. Dallas approved.
BEHIND THE BLEND
Definition Cigars is a boutique brand out of Dallas, Texas, founded in 2019 by Jamond Hackley. The Prolific followed that same fall as the brand's first release that wasn't a maduro, built around an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Hackley keeps the rolling factory to himself, that's the brand's standing policy on every line, and no blender is credited on this one.

BLEND SPECS
THE VITOLA LINEUP
| VITOLA | SIZE | MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| Prolific (round) | 6.5 × 54 | - |
| Prolific BP ← reviewed | 6.5 × 54 | $11.10 |
One line, one size, that's the whole lineup. Your only decision is round or box-pressed, both run 6.5×54. Definition has its own name for this pressed shape, they call it the "Sublime," most listings just say box-pressed Toro. You'll occasionally see it tagged as a robusto, ignore that, 6.5 inches is Toro-length.
THE COLD DRAW
The band is the first thing that gets you, there isn't one, not the paper kind anyway. Definition skips printed labels entirely and wraps a goldenrod-yellow woven nylon cord around the cigar instead, no name, no crest, just the cord. The cold draw is spot on, an easy pull with the wrapper's natural sweetness already showing through before the light.
BLC CIGAR PROFILE
Burn: Stays true without much babysitting, light gray ash with visible oil, dropping in clean sections around an inch and a half.
Draw: Even and spot on start to finish.
This is a first-time smoke for me, so treat complexity and balance as an early read rather than a settled verdict.
THE FIRST THIRD
It opens woody with cinnamon spice and a real sweetness, espresso and mild chocolate underneath, and an odd, likable saltiness, almost like a buttered pretzel. Earthy and slightly peppery too, with the wrapper's natural sweetness doing the balancing. This isn't a shy opening for an $11 cigar.
THE SECOND THIRD
The middle stays bready and woody, cinnamon holding on, honey sweetness building, with citrus and earth working in behind it. Sweet wood with a citrus lift is the throughline here.
THE FINAL THIRD
The close turns dry and woody, coffee holding steady with a dark chocolate bitterness creeping in at the edges. Construction isn't the issue on the way out, the burn and draw stayed solid start to finish, this is purely a flavor-arc note.
OVERALL RATING
BLC OVERALL RATING
This is one of the first formal scores this cigar has received anywhere, and 89 is where it lands for me. A first-time smoke that genuinely impressed, a distinctive no-label band that says something about the brand's confidence, and real character for $11.10. Rotation worthy, in my opinion.
WHO GRABS THIS CIGAR
If you hunt small brands before everybody else finds them, this one belongs on your list. Definition is a Dallas boutique founded in 2019, and the Prolific comes in one size and two shapes, round or pressed. At $11.10 a stick you're not stretching the budget to find out. It was the brand's first swing at a Habano wrapper, and almost nobody has formally reviewed it, you'd be early on this one.
