FROM THE PORCH
Back in New Orleans earlier this year, I got talking with a lady about how much I liked this cigar. She asked if I would like to meet Michael Herklots, and I said sure, not knowing if it would actually happen. The man was working his booth hard, people three deep waiting to talk to him. So I waited too. When he finally came over, the attention was all on me. I told him about the cigar and what I thought of it, and we ended up talking about plenty else besides. Before he moved on I asked for a picture. Great cigar. Even better, the guy behind it.
The photo below is the two of us at the Ferio Tego booth. Since that trip the 650 has kept its spot in my lineup, most of them burned down on the porch beside my old buddy Dallas. He approved this one too. My notes are below.
BEHIND THE BLEND
Ferio Tego was founded in 2021 by Michael Herklots and Brendon Scott, the two former Nat Sherman executives who brought the brands back after Altria shut the company down in 2020. The Timeless line dates to 2012 under Nat Sherman, and the Nicaraguan version has been rolled by the Plasencia family in Estelí from the beginning, that continuity speaks to the standard set for construction and leaf quality. The 650, 6 inches with a 50 ring gauge and box-pressed, is the newest size in the line, added in October 2024. It is a format that gives the blend room to develop without asking too much of your time.

THE SECOND THIRD
Toasted marshmallow sweetness builds alongside cedar and vanilla cream, maple hints weaving through. Strength sits comfortably medium-full without any nicotine spike. Retrohale goes creamy and smooth, easily one of the better mid-smoke transitions in this price range.
THE FINAL THIRD
Big nutty finish takes charge, cocoa deepening, pepper tail refined on the retrohale. Ash holds firm past the inch mark, burn stays clean to the nub. Memorable close, no fade, no heat, just a long satisfying finish.
